Russell M. Nelson Named President, Prophet Of LDS Church

He did not explicitly denounce same-sex marriage but stressed that there is a need to find balance between the "love of the Lord and the law of the Lord". President Henry B. Eyring was the first counselor in the First Presidency under President Monson, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf had served as the second counselor. Nelson was the longest-serving member of a church body known as the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, which meant that he was next in line for the role of president.

The new president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be announced this morning. It was the first time in the Mormon church's history that the announcement of a new president was streamed live around the world, in 29 languages. He said he's watched them receive and act on revelation for the church. Words are inadequate to tell you what it felt like to have my brethren place their hands upon my head to ordain and set me apart as president of the church.

President Nelson and his two counselors will address members of media at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

She also suggested it's unlikely that the First Presidency's traditional responses to concerns about women's leadership and minority representation in the church will be satisfactory to Mormons with questions about these issues.

"The reality is that this presidency will be more conservative than the previous one", Mason said.

The evening then got even better for Bodvarsson as he tapped home his third for his first hat-trick in English football. The historic moment came during Leicester's third round FA Cup replay at home to League One side Fleetwood.

He's a professor of religious studies at the University of Arizona.

"The same people are sitting around the tables, just in different chairs", Bowman said. His professional work included the positions of research professor of surgery and director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Utah and chairman of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Nelson has visited some 133 countries, according to the church.

Nelson called on Mormons to stay true to their faith and declared there's room for everyone in the religion even if they have strayed from the faith. Prior to full-time Church service, President Eyring was president of Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, from 1971 to 1977.
