Whether you would have predicted it or not, the maniacs at Ford are making it happen, announcing that the revamped 2019 Ford Edge will offer an Edge ST model that should be shooting right to the top of many an SUV enthusiast's "must-have" lists.

American carmaking giant Ford has finally unveiled the new Edge ST SUV, ahead of its Detroit launch.

As a performance variant it gets some hotter specs and is powered by a 335bhp 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine that develops 515Nm of torque.

Power goes through an eight-speed automatic transmission to standard all-wheel-drive with a ST tuned sports suspension along with performance brakes. Otherwise, the car's interior will get Ford's latest Sync 3 systems which get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.

Giants expected to hire Pat Shurmur
Shurmur was reportedly a finalist for the Cardinals' coaching job left vacant by Bruce Arians' retirement. Shurmur also spent two years as the Browns' head coach in 2011 and 2012, going 9-23 during that time.

Safety features like forward collision warning with auto braking, blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist and post-collision braking are also included.

Other available features include wireless charging, remote start, a 12-speaker B&O audio system, adaptive cruise control and advanced park assist.

"Chevrolet is committed to delivering high-quality, durable vehicles able to withstand some of the harshest weather conditions and most unique driving situations people encounter today", said Alan Batey, president of GM North America and head of Global Chevrolet.

Ford says the Edge ST will appear in U.S. showrooms in mid-2018, though no word on an Australian arrival.
