National Basketball Association games Saturday, scores, highlights, updates: Lakers look for fourth straight win

Dallas native Julius Randle had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Lakers seal a 107-101 National Basketball Association overtime win over the Mavericks.

The Lakers are set to play again Monday in Memphis. The shot never had a chance and fell well short, and the game required five extra minutes to decide a victor.

There were six ties and 12 lead changes in the game, and the Lakers turned it into a close game when they orchestrated a 15-3 run in the fourth quarter, erasing the 80-70 lead that Dallas had taken early in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer by Dirk Nowitzki. "We've been in overtime games before, and let's take it possession by possession". The Lakers outscored the Mavericks 54-30 in points in the paint.

Consecutive baskets by Barnes and Smith pushed Dallas within 94-93 with 14 seconds left.

DALLAS, TX - JANUARY 13: Jordan Clarkson #6 of the Los Angeles Lakers takes a shot against Yogi Ferrell #11 of the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on January 13, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. The Lakers called a timeout but couldn't get off a clean shot before the buzzer. He, too, has a triple-double (21 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists vs. the New Orleans Pelicans), but tallied seven turnovers in the same game.

It was a nip-and-tuck performance by the Lakers (15-27). However, like the Lakers, they come into this game on a winning streak, as they have won their last two games.

The Lakers (15-27) trailed by double digits in the fourth quarter, but battled back for their first win against the Mavericks in 15 tries and their first victory in Dallas since February 24, 2013.

The Mavericks, however, continued to fight back and cut the difference to three points with 42 seconds remaining in overtime. On the Lakers' next possession, Lonzo Ball drove into the lane and missed wildly, but Julius Randle was there to grab the rebound and bank in the shot that put the Lakers ahead by five.

After Randle almost turned it over, Ball picked up the basketball and forced up a desperation shot that was well short.

Los Angeles used a strong fourth-quarter push to force overtime.

Randle scored 10 first-quarter points as the Lakers jumped out to a 31-20 lead.

Lakers forward Brandon Ingram exited in the second quarter due to a sprained left ankle. "And it's a long road ahead, but we've just got to continue taking it one game at a time", said Barnes, on the eve of the game, via ESPN.
