Maryland lawmakers, Mayor Pugh condemn Trump's comments on immigrants

The U.S. leader has been under fire at home and overseas after he reportedly referred to Haiti and African nations as "shithole countries" during a meeting on an immigration deal with a group of bipartisan lawmakers at the White House on Thursday.

Trump reportedly demanded to know why the United States should accept immigrants from "sh**hole countries", after lawmakers raised the issue of protections for immigrants from African nations, Haiti and El Salvador.

Trump's response Friday morning was particularly notable after White House spokesperson Raj Shah did not deny the "shithole" remark on Thursday evening.

President Trump tweeted he never said anything derogatory about Haitians, other than Haiti is a very poor and troubled country. Plus, the White House has yet to officially deny the reports in a statement - and Hillary Clinton has plenty to say about it.

"The language used by me at the Daca meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", Trump wrote in a series of tweets, referring to the program to protect young undocumented immigrants who were illegally brought into the country as children.

Despite the back and forth regarding Trump's reported remarks, several lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have decried the language and condemned the comments. Trump said, according to Washington Post. But instead of winningTrump's support, as they had expected, the president launched into a broadside against immigration from Haiti and Africa.

"(The President) said things which were hate-filled, vile and racist. "There is no other word but "racist".

Ah, so it's not that Trump is opposed to all immigration, just immigration from people who aren't white. The president said he has a wonderful relationship with Haitians and suggested future meetings probably should be recorded.

Immigration is one of the issues that Pope Francis, who has strongly defended the rights of developing countries, and Trump have clashed over. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and United States of America would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime.

"We would not deign to make comments as derogatory as that about any country that has any kind of socio-economic or other difficulties", Duarte said, adding that much like their African counterparts, millions of United States citizens were affected by problems such as unemployment.

"When you're doing that well and you have that many accomplishments, don't you want people to be talking about your accomplishments?"
