Warner Bros. Dates DC/New Line's 'Shazam!' For Spring 2019

Warner Bros. Dates DC/New Line's 'Shazam!' For Spring 2019

Pictures officially confirmed this week that the release date for the Shazam movie is now set for April 5, 2019 release.

The story sees young Billy Batson, played by Asher Angel, transformed into the super hero Captain Marvel (Levi) when he yells the magic word, "Shazam!".

David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) will direct from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. "It's like Superman meets Big, and that's just so fun". Other cast members include Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen and Jovan Armand as Billy's friends that live in a group home with him. Filming will likely be underway soon if they're planning to hit an April 2019 release date. Zachary Levi recently expressed his wish to have a Wonder Woman cameo in the movie. Levi said. "I get to do my version of Big, basically".

European Union concerned over detention of journalists in Myanmar
Later Wednesday, the military released results of its investigation into the mass grave the journalists were probing. Reported by Htet Arkar, Kyaw Zaw Win, Tin Aung Khine, and Thinn Thiri for RFA's Myanmar Service.

It's worth noting that the release date isn't on Easter weekend, which is when Warner Bros. released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. The movie, which also be shown in IMAX, has that date to itself for now.

That being said, they seem to have a charming take on the material, and with Shazam! opening in April, it's not like Warner Bros' is banking its summer slate on the movie.
