VAR 'finger in ear' signal to be reviewed before cup replays

VAR can be used by referees for match-changing decisions relating to the awarding of goals, penalties, red cards and for cases of mistaken identity.

Referee Martin Atkinson consulted with video ref Neil Swarbrick, who sat in the Premier League's control room in west London, on two penalty appeals ― one for each team ― but no decisions were overturned.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chelsea missed a string of chances to draw 0-0 at home with Arsenal in the first leg of their English Football League (EFL) Cup semi-final.

"It has gone very well in the first few games", Riley told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"The whole idea of the protocol is to have minimum interference on the game but get the right decisions to have the maximum impact".

"That is a little bit longer than we have done in training", said Riley. Currently, if you look at the referee, you will see him put his finger in his ear but I accept that in the stadium that can be quite hard to see.

Riley believes the game will benefit from the introduction of VAR.

If Chelsea beat Norwich, their tie with Newcastle United - also on BT Sport 2 - could be another VAR game the following afternoon.
