Trump claims he 'probably' has a good relationship with N. Korea leader

Washington seems to have turned to a more open stance with Pyongyang according to the most recent comment from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speculation has risen that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un won't be able to brush aside that offer in view of President Trump's efforts to squeeze the regime and the fact he's left no room for engagement.

"I believe Mr Kim Jong-Un has won this round", Putin told Russian journalists on Thursday. "I'm a very flexible person", Trump added.

"You'll see that a lot with me", Trump said about his fiery tweets and nuclear missile threats. "I'm not saying I have or haven't", he said.

Trump has repeatedly insulted the North Korean leader, describing him as mad and a "rocket man".

Putin also called Kim educated and "shrewd and mature" during the latest standoff with South Korea and the West over his nuclear and missile program. "I just don't want to comment", adding that his attitude towards North Korea is intentional and part of a broader goal.

He had hit back at Kim Jong-un by saying that he too has a nuclear button on his desk, which was much bigger and powerful than his.

In a story posted on the North Korea analysis website 38 North, Alexander Vorontsov, the head of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russia Academy of Sciences, conveyed the unstable North Korean atmosphere based on a trip to Pyongyang in mid-November that lasted several days and his conversations with foreign ministry officials there.

Earlier this week, it was reported the considering a "bloody nose" strategy with North Korea that would involve "targeted strikes", as Independent Journal Review reportedly previously. Kim called the 71-year-old American president "the mentally deranged US dotard". And if the North demands the South suspend its joint military drills with the USA, another expert pointed out, Seoul could lead Pyongyang to talk directly with Washington on that matter.
