"Obviously, it doesn't work that way, and therefore I've chosen to terminate our business relationship".

"I did overhear them talking about stuff, where, 'Well, maybe we should take somebody out so we can make sure she gets on the team.' And I remember telling them, I go, 'What the hell are you talking about?" "Well I read the script initially as a producer but when I read the role I couldn't see anything I had in common with her and that excited me", she said.

"It's not really part of my life", she said of the film and attack. Golden also denied she ever threw a steak knife that struck Harding in the arm during an argument.

The victor of two national titles (one was later taken away because of her role in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan), Harding also was sent by U.S. Figure Skating to two world championships, where she finished second and sixth.

While Kerrigan was mum about the movie, her fellow figure skater Johnny Weir has criticized I, Tonya.

Golden admitted to using a hairbrush to "spank" Harding at a competition, but denied she was habitually abusive toward Harding. In fact, she said she basically figured out that her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and his friend, Shawn Eckardt, had likely been behind the plot to attack Kerrigan shortly after she won the USA figure skating title. "It was a steak knife", Harding said.

In the PR blitz surrounding the new movie "I, Tonya, " Harding has been made to seem softer and more sympathetic than the cut-throat competitor accused, along with her then-husband Jeff Gillooly, of kneecapping Nancy Kerrigan before the 1994 Winter Olympics. "I didn't know it was a real life person". "I mean, I was there". We both have wonderful lives. Later, authorities discovered that Harding's ex-husband and bodyguard masterminded the attack in hopes of improving Harding's chances at the US Trials and the Olympics. On social media, the Olympic figure skater slammed the movie for the glorification of Harding. While Harding was a rough-around-the-edges athlete in a sport in which most toed the line in the 1990s, she still was given opportunity after opportunity to represent the United States around the world.

"People don't understand that what you guys see in the movie is nothing", she told the New York Times.

Harding was still charged with conspiring to hinder prosecution. She was also banned from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
