MLB Trade Rumors: Manny Machado Being Pursued By Arizona Diamondbacks

It's hard to believe that Machado is only 25 years old, but it's unclear if the Diamondbacks are looking to lock him up to a long-term deal or use as a one-year rental. He had a.259/.310/.471 in 156 games during the 2017 season.

Orioles and INF Manny Machado avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $16 million contract.

Catcher Caleb Joseph received a raise from $700,000 to $1.25 million and shortstop Tim Beckham received a hefty salary from $885,000 past year (with the Tampa Bay Rays) to $3.35 million for 2018.

Right-hander Kevin Gausman and second baseman Jonathan Schoop have yet to reach agreement on salaries for 2018.

Machado, who can become a free agent after this season, hit.259 with 33 homers and 95 RBIs previous year, when he made $11.5 million. However, he was taken with the No. 3 pick in 2010 and settled on a $5.25 million contract with the Orioles just before the deadline. Otherwise they might have to deal with a potentially losable grievance - and still have to pay the salary. Right-handed reliever Brad Brach also went to an arbitration hearing last year, handing the Orioles their only arbitration hearing defeat in 22 years.

The Britton and Brach news was reported by and confirmed by industry sources. So that salary should not be a hindrance if the Orioles do trade Machado this year.

Both Machado and Britton have been the subject of trade rumors this offseason, with talks surrounding the latter quieting down following his injury. USA Today and FanRag Sports first had the Schoop and Gausman filings, respectively.
