Leipzig's Keita to face Schalke amid early Liverpool move talk

And, although, there had been speculations of a winter move for the 22-year-old; one which had been downplayed, severally, by the German side - most recently by club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, they might be tempted to grant the Guinea worldwide an early move if Liverpool pay a sum in the region of £13 million.

The former Liverpool midfielder thinks the club need to strengthen the "power, presence and creativity" in the middle of the park and doesn't think Keita is that man. During the last year-and-a-half he's played many great games for us, maybe the last six months he hasn't always performed at the highest level.

The 26-year-old missed out on a move to Arsenal or Barcelona in the 2016 summer transfer window and didn't rediscover his best form until this season.

"I'm not sure (on Keita), from what I've seen", the ex-Liverpool star said via Liverpool Echo.

"I think he's only scored a couple of goals, he seems a little bit distant".

"This is the kind of deal that's hard to understand".

Balague continued, "Look at Mbappe for instance".

Keita will officially become a Liverpool player on July 1st, after they agreed a £55m deal with Leipzig last summer.

"Apart from that, my understanding is Klopp will look at the market and will see what's available".

"And they're going to try by paying even more money if necessary, call it a loan deal, I don't know how they're going to do it".

"It happened at Liverpool".

Signing Keita would mean that Liverpool aren't left shortchanged this season if they progress further in either or both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
