James Franco absent from Critics Choice Awards amid sexual misconduct allegations

The Critics Choice Awards descended on Santa Monica, honoring the best and brightest in TV and film.

The Critics' Choice acting winners were similar to the Globes, and basically what we should expect from the Oscars: Allison Janney (I, Tonya) for supporting actress; Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards) for supporting actor; Frances McDormand (Three Billboards) for drama actress; and Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) for drama actor.

Meanwhile, host Olivia Munn and Niecy Nash gave a sarcastic toast to the "good guys" in Hollywood - before slamming the men at the Golden Globes for not speaking out in support of Time's Up. Remember the time you pushed my head down in a vehicle towards your exposed penis & that other time you told my friend to come to your hotel when she was 17?

The more I talk to Academy members, the more I hear rumblings about this summer's biggest hit - if not because it's a cinematic work of art, then because no movie better captures this new era of female empowerment.

"I know what you did last summer: James Franco wins a Critics' Choice Award amid sexual misconduct claims", McGowan tweeted shortly after his win. "Thank you so much".

Barty best of the Aussies in Sydney
Barty will play in her first home WTA final on after overcoming compatriot Daria Gavrilova 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Ferrer's countryman Roberto Bautista Agut will play Dutchman Robin Haase in the other semifinal.

Guillermo Del Toro's romance/creature feature, which stars Doug Jones as a fish man and Sally Hawkins as the mute cleaning lady who falls in love with him, scooped Best Picture at the ceremony. Her show was nominated for Best Reality Competition Series, which was won by The Voice.

However, it was Gal Gadot that really took the spotlight when she collected the SeeHer award in a silver shimmering Prada number. It's time for us to shut up, listen and amplify.

The actress had come under fire for not mentioning her two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, in her Golden Globes acceptance speech earlier this week.

"I was still overwhelmed", she said. "They've got a good thing going and they rock".
