ATP Auckland: Bautista Agut edges del Potro for his 7th ATP title

Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut has won his second ASB Classic men's singles title in three years, holding off the most valiant of Juan Martin del Potro fightbacks to take out Saturday's final 6-1 4-6 7-5. "Today's match was so close".

Del Potro had advanced to the final behind his booming forehand that nullified the superb defensive game of David Ferrer.

But in the second set del Potro regained his touch and broke Bautista Agut for the first time at 5-4 to take the set.

There were no break points in the first set but the Argentinian managed to break the Russian's first serve in the second set and felt it was an encouraging performance ahead of facing Ferrer.

Alabama DL coach Karl Dunbar's playbook was stolen from his backpack
Police say an Alabama coach's backpack, which included his playbook, was stolen from his hotel ahead of the National Championship. Right away everyone assumed this man is a Georgia fan, although the alleged theft didn't seem to have an impact on the field.

He romped through the first set in 31 minutes as he broke Del Potro three times and produced numerous forehand winners. I've been fighting a lot on the court, and I couldn't believe I was playing my best tennis.

The Spanish fifth seed added to his 2016 crown with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 success over Del Potro in two hours, seven minutes.

"Juan Martin is very tough to beat and I think I just played two wonderful games at the end of the match". "If I play well maybe I have a little chance". Juan Martin netted a backhand to get broken in game number 2 but he fired up his mighty forehand to get back on the track in the following game, breaking back with a volley victor and reducing the deficit to 2-1.

"David is a great fighter, we have a great relationship and it's going to be an interesting match to watch". I think I played very aggressive... Juan Martin was there to fight until the final point, creating a break point that could set up the deciding tie break, but he was denied by an ace from Roberto, one of his most important shots of the day.
