Saudi aircraft crash: Fighter jet 'shot down by rebels' in Yemen

Yemen's Shiite rebels say they have fired a ballistic missile targeting a special forces camp and a facility for helicopter gunships in the Saudi border province of Najran.

The Saudi-owned satellite TV channel Al Arabiya, however, reported that Saudi air defenses intercepted the missile and destroyed it over Najran.

On Wednesday, Houthi rebels threatened to cut off the Red Sea shipping line if the Saudi-led coalition forces keep advancing toward the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah, according to Houthi-controlled Saba agency.

A surface-to-air missiles claimed to have been used by Yemeni ground forces against Saudi fighter jets.

The missile attacks come as rebel forces suffer steady losses against coalition-backed Yemeni government forces.

Dozens of Houthis were killed or captured in Al Qubaita district of northern Lahj province as troops seized the strategic Al Hamam mountain, the Yemen News Agency reported.

Saleh's killing was a turning point in the war, the minister said.

"The Houthi who decimated crops and seeds, destroyed Yemen, betrayed his ally and partner, is now threatening the worldwide navigation; we are facing a terrorist gang that the end of its existence in Yemen is nigh", Gargash said.
