Padmavati is Padmaavat officially: Bhansali changes film name after CBFC order

One of the three historians who was invited by the CBFC to view the film, Professor Kapil Kumar, has said there were many sequences in the film which had the power to inflame people.

Padmaavat is now reported to hit the screens on 25th January 2018, however, no official confirmation is made by the makers. It has been at the centre of controversies for past one year, ever since Bhansali began shooting in January last year in Jaipur.

Despite the clearance from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), "Padmaavat" won't be released in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Friday. As the protests spread through different states, the release date of the film was postponed. The modification includes changing the disclaimer that the movie does not claim historical accuracy and added that the movie does not subscribe to the Sati system practice.

- Modifications to the song "Ghoomar" to make the depiction befitting to the character being portrayed.

Deepika Padukone-starrer Padmavati has now offically been renamed Padmaavat, after Malik Muhammad Jayasi's 16th Century epic poem that the film is supposedly based on.

While Padmaavat release has been banned in BJP-ruled Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, Goa on Monday clarified that the movie could be released there. The film was expected to be released on December 1, 2017 but was stalled due to protests.

Karni Sena workers claim that changing the name of the film doesn't suffice.

There are no 300 cuts in "Padmaavat", said the film's producers, appreciating the balanced, fair and transparent process followed by the censor board in suggesting five modifications in the movie. The movie features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. "Going by the trailer and whatever we have seen so far, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has hurt Rajput sentiments and glory".
