Packers Dismiss OC, Quarterback Coach

The extensive changes are a reflection of the falloff in the Packers' play in going 7-9 after eight straight trips to the playoffs, quarterback Aaron Rodgers' broken collarbone notwithstanding.

Van Pelt joined the Packers organization in 2012, and was in his second season coaching the QB's. Coach Mike McCarthy detailed some of those changes during his season-ending press conference on Thursday. Trgovac coached the defensive line since 2009.

While the Packers plan to interview current defensive assistants Winston Moss, Joe Whitt Jr., and Darren Perry to replace Capers, McCarthy said it's more likely the replacements for both Capers and Bennett will be from outside the organization. In all, Green Bay defenders have made 17 appearances in the Pro Bowl during Capers' tenure.

The former Giants coach's potential path back to Green Bay has emerged. "Additionally, I want to thank every player that has stepped on the field for us". This is about doing what's in the best interests of the Green Bay Packers. Before that, Bennett, a running back for the Packers from 1992 through 1997, coached his old position from 2001 through 2010 under Mike Sherman and McCarthy.

Bennett had been Offensive Coordinator for three years, and finished his 13th season as a coach in the NFL.

McCarthy lamented the "personal aspect" of the changes, which he said is "what keeps me up at night". "We had a hell of a partnership for 12 years". But he also made it clear that such changes are "my professional responsibility", and are aimed at winning the franchise's 14th National Football League title, fifth Lombardi Trophy and second Super Bowl title of the McCarthy-Rodgers era.

The Green Bay Packers continued their purge of the coaching staff by firing two more assistants on Wednesday.

And, he insisted, numerous changes would have happened even if Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr hadn't fractured Rodgers' right collarbone on October 15 in Minneapolis, sending a once-promising 4-1 season into a tailspin.

Who do you think should take over as the new offensive coordinator?

A defense plagued by injuries at cornerback had some moments trying to adjust to the loss of Rodgers on the other side of the ball. "We've going to evaluate every aspect of the football operations".
