OR knocks off No 11 Arizona State

With Oregon State leading 26-25, strong UA defense on the perimeter forced OSU's Stephen Thompson throw an errant ball into the post that Ayton easily picked off.

Shaquille Morris added 12 points for the Shockers (14-2), who improved to 4-0 in their first season in the American Athletic Conference.

Payton Pritchard scored 18 points and hit two free throws with 13.8 seconds left, helping OR hold off No. 11 Arizona State 76-72 on Thursday night. Alkins scored seven in the surge, capping it with a 3-pointer that put Arizona up 54-42 with 4:10 to play.

The Oregon State baseball team is ranked second by Perfect Game to open the 2018 season.

The Beavers have won only once at McKale Center since the teams started playing each other in 1975-76 and became Pac-10 competitors three seasons later, with the lone win against Sean Miller's first Arizona team in 2009-10.

OR (12-5, 2-2 Pac-12) used a late spurt to go up eight points and hit four free throws in the final 32 seconds against the Sun Devils (13-3, 1-3).

Arizona State got just eight points from their bench, leaving the scoring duties to their trio of guards, which saw senior Kodi Justice take centerstage on Thursday.

The Wildcats found their offense in the second half, scoring 41 points in the game's final 20 minutes.

North Carolina State 78, #19 Clemson 77: Omer Yurtseven scored 29 points as the host Wolfpack (12-5, 2-2 ACC) held off the Tigers (14-2, 3-1). Gabby Green, a Cal transfer, led the Lions (11-5, 3-2) with 19 points. Seth Berger played well again with four points, on 2-for-3 shooting, and six rebounds.

Stanford 79, at Washington State 70: Dorian Pickens had a career-high 28 points, including a key three-pointer with 76 seconds left, to help the Cardinal beat the Cougars. Their previous low came on December 5 against Texas A&M, when the Aggies led 31-29 at halftime.

Arizona (13-4, 3-1) chipped away and eventually cut the lead to 22-21 at the halftime break.
