CHP arrests two on DUI charges during enforcement period

The Santa Rosa Area CHP made 22 DUI arrests over the New Year's weekend.

Royce says there were just as many troopers out on the road last weekend as there were the year before, but they did not find as many impaired drivers. There were two fatalities in two crashes in Pennsylvania this year, according to State Police.

The CHP's three-day "maximum enforcement period", during which all available officers deployed to catch lawbreakers, concluded about midnight January 1, resulting in 30 arrests throughout their area, which includes Corona, Eastvale, El Cerrito, Jurupa Valley, Lake Mathews and Moreno Valley, according to the CHP.

CHP officers braced themselves for motorists driving under the influence, issuing a notice after Christmas that they would be cracking down on suspects over the New Year's weekend.
