JNU PhD scholar Mukul Jain goes missing

A research scholar pursuing his PhD from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has allegedly gone missing from the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus, police said on Wednesday.

Initial reports suggest that Jain was last seen leaving the campus at around 12.30 pm from the East Gate of JNU.

Jain's family had approached JNU authorities after he failed to return home till late in the evening on Monday. Police are looking for him and a missing persons complaint has been filed.

Mukul's kin informed the university authorities, who then went through the CCTV footages.

Mukul is a research fellow from School of Life Sciences at JNU.

In 2016, another student had gone missing from the JNU campus. His friends have told the police that he has left his wallet and mobile phone in the laboratory.

It may be recalled that Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, went missing after a brawl with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Mahi-Mandavi Hostel in Delhi on October 2016.

Over a month after the incident, his mother moved the Delhi High Court, seeking directions to the police to trace her son.
