Vivo has taken to Twitter to make this official announcement regarding the fingerprint sensor technology.

Given that the full-screen design trend is going mainstream, the demand for the under glass fingerprint sensors is massive.

If it's announced at CES, the smartphone could go to market in the next months. As we are moving towards smartphones with near bezel-less displays, consumers have been expecting under display fingerprint sensors to become a thing as many are not in favour of rear mounted sensors.

The race to implementing an under-display fingerprint sensor is close to its end, and it looks like Vivo will come out on top after all.

In June of previous year, Qualcomm announced the development of in-screen fingerprint scanning technology. Nearly instantly, Chinese company Vivo announced it would be using the tech to build a prototype, which it showed off only a few days later. However, the sensor wasn't as responsive as Vivo would have liked.

At CES 2018, Vivo shows the world the first ready-to-produce smartphone featuring in-display fingerprint scanning technology, demonstrating its continued commitment to bring an extraordinary user experience. Also, it appears to be well protected under the durable glass and is claimed to be resistant to water and scratches as well.

It has security features such as adaptive fingerprint template matching and authentication, and anti-spoofing technology too. The Clear ID is also integrated with AES encryption and ECC authentication. Nothing concrete surfaced until a few weeks ago, though, when Synaptics released a report that proved it had a fully implemented model of the technology. The upcoming smartphone in all likelihood will feature in-screen fingerprint sensor from Synaptics. It has also announced that it is manufacturing the under glass fingerprint sensor for a major smartphone brand, but the name has not been revealed yet.
