Ben Stokes Included in England T20 Squad for Tri-series

Ben Stokes Included in England T20 Squad for Tri-series

Ben Stokes has been included and Moeen Ali, his fellow allrounder, rested as England's selectors announced a 16-man squad for the triangular Twenty20 global series against Australia and New Zealand in February.

Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow have both been rested, with their places taken by Vince and Sam Billings - the latter now playing for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.

Ben Stokes participation is subject to the outcome of the pending enquiry into his nightclub brawl. They have consequently been given time off to rest and recuperate.

Also making a return in the abridged version are Kent's wicketkepeer-batsman Sam Billings and Durham pacer Mark Wood, who missed out on England's previous T20I assignment against Windies at home in September.

Vince was singled out for criticism by assistant coach Paul Farbrace after another soft dismissal on day four of the final Test in Sydney, the 26-year-old finishing the series with 242 runs at 26.88. Stokes played no part in the Ashes series and was replaced by Dawid Malan in the ODI squad.

Commuters face disruption as three-day rail strike kicks off
But, luckily for us Greater Anglia have reassured us they are planning on running a full service for all three days. Commuters on the 07:00 Southampton to London Waterloo service told the BBC it was "quieter than normal".

Along with Vince other players from the Ashes to be included in the T20I squad are Joe Root, Malan and Tom Curran.

Stokes, 26, has not played for England since September as he awaits to discover whether he will be charged with causing actual bodily harm following an incident in Bristol.

"Our limited overs cricket has been progressing nicely across both formats so this tournament will be another indicator on where we are heading as a team over the long-term". Whitaker wants England to be the best T20I side in the world and giving exposure to Root and Malan will help the team.

"Should the ECB Board receive formal confirmation that Stokes has either been charged or that he will face no charges, they would convene within 48 hours to make a decision on his availability for the team at that stage", said an ECB statement.

England play two T20s against Australia in Hobart and Melbourne on February 7 and February 10, followed by two in New Zealand.
