Arsenal close to signing Jonny Evans?

Arsenal and Manchester City have made contact with West Brom to explore a deal to sign centre-back Jonny Evans.

Evans has impressed mightily for the Baggies since leaving Manchester United for the Hawthorns in 2015, although there's little guarantee the 30-year-old would step into the starting XI at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were interested in the summer while City fell short with a bid.

The Sun say that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is keen on Northern Ireland global Evans, could beat Manchester City to his signature this month. He has also been linked with a return to Old Trafford.

Video posted on the club website showed a locker bearing his name had already been reserved for their new recruit. Selling Coutinho could cost them millions more if they fail to qualify for the Champions League'.

The report also says that Pep Guardiola's City have made an enquiry but that no formal offers have been made at this point. Evans is thought to favour a move back to the north west of England, where his family are based.

Sky Sports News presenter Jim White recently provided quotes from Pardew on Evans' situation and the chances of him leaving West Brom this winter: "There's been no bid for Jonny, so there's no decision to be made on that".

The Northern Ireland worldwide has been linked with a move to a top-six club since the summer transfer window. "We know that and he knows that, we have to be intelligent and straightforward dealing with it".

"West Brom rejected £20-25m in the summer", Sheth told the Transfer Talk podcast. He knows he can have those conversations [about a new deal] with us. "We will give him the deal we can possibly go to on the financial side and length of contract, but that might not be the whole thing with Jonny".
