Liverpool will co-operate if Roberto Firmino-Mason Holgate clash is investigated

Everton defender Mason Holgate and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino could potentially face an FA enquiry for an incident that occurred between the two in the first half of the FA Cup third round tie on Friday night, according to a top football journalist.

What happened during that Holgate's push on Firmino?

The spokesman said: "The Club and player will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure the facts established in a thorough manner if deemed necessary or requested".

He said: "I'm telling you nothing until whatever systems are used to find out what exactly happened and what didn't happen".

"Whatever happens outside the game needs to be dealt with by the authorities".

Asked if he'd spoken to Holgate about the incident, Allardyce added: "Even if I had or hadn't I wouldn't tell anybody today in this conference because that, for me, is in the other areas of the football club". For me, I thought some of the fouls they got and bookings we got and fouls we didn't get was very harsh by the referee in terms of consistency, there were similar incidents, similar penalties.
