LAPD Officer Hospitalized after Being Shot in Suspected Ambush Attack

A Los Angeles Police Department officer was shot in what police are calling an "ambush-style attack" Friday night in the Westlake District area of central Los Angeles.

On his way to the hospital, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck described it as an "unprovoked and cowardly attack" where a suspect fired multiple rounds from "a significant distance" at officers conducting an unrelated investigation. She is in stable condition.

The LAPD tweeted, "Please keep the officer in your prayers tonight".

No officers were injured during the shooting, Preciado said.

Let's be honest, many people are wowed and alarmed by voice search devices such as Amazon's Alexa or Google Home. As Grandad asks everyone, "What is this thing?" Gran is encouraged to take Google's smart speaker for a spin.

"She is in remarkably good spirits", Beck said in an update Saturday morning. Neither fired their weapon, Lopez said. Police said it was not yet known who ambushed the officer, but at least one person was in custody and a gun was recovered.

A suspect armed with what appeared to be a gun pointed at officers was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Koreatown early Sunday.

The suspect ran as the wounded officer's partner pulled her to safety and called for help, Beck said.
